About

Charlie smiles and laughs in a park. She is wearing a bright green jumper and glasses. It is a sunny day and there are flowers blooming behind her.

Charlie Moyler is a writer and art director from South East London who has been designing children's books for 15 years. Before then, as the daughter of two artists, she spent her childhood and teen years making things and performing.

Charlie’s debut picture book, The Tree Next Door (illustrated by Martin Stanev), was first published in 2023 in the UK. It has also been published in Türkiye and France.

The hive.co.uk Rising Writer is passionate about connection and the experience of reading, and draws on her own experience of being a mother and an art director to write with the illustrations in mind. Her life’s mission statement is to “Make good things and make good things happen” and she thinks there are few places better to do that than in the creative landscapes of publishing.

As an art director, elevating projects to empower storytellers to meet their potential is her expertise, and over the years she has directed a huge range of projects from acclaimed highly illustrated fiction to novelty gift books and picture books. She is currently the Fiction Art Director at Little Tiger and has previously worked at Walker Books.

Charlie is represented by Davinia Andrew-Lynch at Andlyn literary agency and has several picture book and poetry texts out on submission. Her current writing projects include a young chapter book series, a children’s theatre adaptation of The Tree Next Door and the beginnings of writing for adults.
